Performance “What am I doing here?” with Viktória Makra

Performance: “What am I doing here?”
Friday, 13th February at 7:30 PM

After a wonderful solo Butoh performance with Reimar Wen Shen last month, we felt inspired—and next week we’re excited to present a physical theatre performance by Viktória Makra: “What am I doing here?”

Not long after I moved to Portugal, I found myself confused at a dance gathering, which sparked the creation of the initial monologue of this show. It’s a deep dive into my relationship with dance, art, theatre, and my own body. My exploration draws from my personal background and the challenges of being an artist navigating life as an immigrant in a new land.

While deeply personal, the performance also touches on broader issues. Through movement and bilingual text, “What am I doing here?” aims to spark conversation around these complex topics—with a generous dose of humour.

“My little girl, if you’re gonna stay that fat, nobody will love you!”
Question: Why did you say that to me?
Answer: I’ve never said that.

Meatball ballet.
Each and every time when I was dancing—so basically always.
At home, or waiting for the bus.
Meatball ballet.

Question: Why did you say that to me?
Answer: I was just joking.
You’ve always been too sensitive.
