Dancing Softness

Biomechanics of Flow

22th to 27th March 2027

The Axis Syllabus and Contact Improvisation

A week of movement with Dagmar Bock

22th to 27th March 2027

True power can only be
found in softness

This workshop invites an exploration of movement through the lens of biomechanics and applied anatomy, cultivating a deeper awareness of the body in motion. We will investigate how the connective tissue network recycles energy and supports us in dynamic movement.

Softening is an active practice of releasing tension, refining muscular effort, and allowing the body to respond with greater sensitivity and efficiency. By softening, we create space for energy to move, transform, and circulate more freely. How does the practice of softening change the way we stand, walk, roll, meet ourselves, and connect with others?

Through practices of falling, spirals, sequential movement, and weight sharing, we will explore sustainable, creative, and responsive ways of dancing. Drawing inspiration from the Axis Syllabus, Tai Chi, and Contact Improvisation, we explore the body in motion from different perspectives. Improvisation and choreographic movement patterns become springboards for playfulness, curiosity, and creativity.

Personal and collective research
will create a shared laboratory for
discovering the potential and power
that emerges through softness.

The Axis Syllabus

The Axis Syllabus is a collection of knowledge for learning, researching, and experiencing movement—especially in the context of dance. This includes moving with anatomical relationships, physics, bio-tensegrity, ongoing multi-disciplinary research, movement analysis, and transmission.

An Axis Syllabus class aims to create a collaborative learning environment and an effective space for personal research.
